VIP/Rape Crisis Center

The Victim Intervention Program (VIP)/Rape Crisis Center at Parkland provides emotional support, safety planning and referrals to more than 4,000 victims of domestic violence, sexual assault or any other violent crime each year.

The Challenge

  • According to the Texas Council on Family Violence, 1 in 3 Texans will experience domestic violence in their lifetimes.
  • In 2015, 2,082 cases of sexual assault and 22,827 cases of family violence were reported in Dallas County.
  • In 2016, 2,272 patients were seen by VIP/Rape Crisis Center client advocates who provide crisis intervention and advocacy to patients who have experienced past or recent abuse/violence.
  • In 2016, 326 new counseling clients received counseling services and 3,833 counseling hours were provided to victims.
  • In Dallas County, the demand for trauma counseling exceeds the available resources.

Lindsay visits the center to develop tools and coping techniques for her struggle with  post-traumatic stress disorder and anxiety related to the trauma she's experienced.

The Solution

The VIP/Rape Crisis Center strives to prevent violence towards women, men and children and promote safety and recovery for victims of abuse and/or violence. The center helps those who have experienced abuse and violence of many forms.

Services are offered to women, men, teens and children as young as 4 years who live in Dallas County and have experienced sexual assault, family violence, intimate partner violence, human trafficking or other types of under-reported violent crimes.
