VIP/Rape Crisis Center
The Victim Intervention Program (VIP)/Rape Crisis Center at Parkland provides emotional support, safety planning and referrals to more than 4,000 victims of domestic violence, sexual assault or any other violent crime each year.
The Challenge
- According to the Texas Council on Family Violence, 1 in 3 Texans will experience domestic violence in their lifetimes.
- In 2015, 2,082 cases of sexual assault and 22,827 cases of family violence were reported in Dallas County.
- In 2016, 2,272 patients were seen by VIP/Rape Crisis Center client advocates who provide crisis intervention and advocacy to patients who have experienced past or recent abuse/violence.
- In 2016, 326 new counseling clients received counseling services and 3,833 counseling hours were provided to victims.
- In Dallas County, the demand for trauma counseling exceeds the available resources.
