Like so many residents who have been impacted by Parkland Health (Parkland), Dr. Jeffrey Drees credits the hospital for some of his most formative experiences. From starting as a Neurosurgical resident to his completion of a Critical Care Fellowship at Parkland in the early 2000s, he learned lessons that inform his practices, worked with role models that impact his decisions – even met the woman who would be his wife. In a recent note to one of our fundraising staff, he enthusiastically pledged to continue his support as long as he is able and applauded our efforts to sustain the generous benefits Parkland provides to the citizens of Dallas County.
Dr. Drees is the preeminent example of I Stand for Parkland, Parkland Foundation’s campaign that started with the fundraising efforts to replace a hospital originally opened in 1954. The new Parkland was made possible by the $150 million raised by people like Dr. Drees and yourself – people who took the message of standing for Parkland to heart.
Recently, Parkland’s identity was reshaped to be Parkland Health in order to better reflect the organization’s commitment to public health in the broadest sense.
In the spirit of one Parkland, one community, one commitment, we believe we will better reflect that mission by rebranding ourselves as Parkland Health Foundation.
Our commitment to partner with you to improve health access in Dallas County is not changing. Our mission remains to secure substantial financial resources that advance the goals of Parkland.
People like you and Dr. Drees continue to stand for Parkland in good times and in times of need. We thank you for joining us on this journey so far. Now, let’s continue to build upon the strong foundation of health that is Parkland.
Michael A. Horne, EdD, MPPPresident and Chief Executive Officer
